Comparison
Odoo is a strong general-purpose ERP with a module for almost everything. Zaptiz does one industry properly. This page sets out the real difference — configuration effort, panel-specific estimating, AI, and total cost — including the cases where Odoo is the better choice for you.
Zaptiz: days. Odoo: typically weeks to months, depending on how much configuration your process needs.
BOM from a photo, drawing or description is built into Zaptiz. In Odoo it is a gap you would have to fill.
Zaptiz is a subscription we run. Odoo Community usually needs a partner or an in-house developer.
Compare the subscription against licence plus implementation plus hosting plus ongoing maintenance.
Odoo is broader. It has modules for HR, ecommerce, field service, marketing and much more, and if your business needs several of those, that breadth is real value that Zaptiz does not offer.
Zaptiz is deeper in one place. Everything in it assumes you build electrical panels to order: the estimating, the drawing handling, the price lists, the GST treatment. If that is your business, most of the setup work has already been done for you.
The choice is mostly about where you want to spend effort — configuring a flexible system to match your trade, or adopting a system already shaped to it and accepting its opinions.
These are the differences that show up in daily use rather than on a feature checklist:
We would rather you buy the right thing than buy ours. Choose Odoo if any of these describe you:
Feature tables are easy to write and hard to trust. The reliable test is to take one real enquiry that you have already estimated by hand, and run it through both systems end to end: generate the bill of material, price it, produce the quotation, and see what it takes to get from the drawing to a document you would send a customer.
That exercise takes an afternoon and answers more than a month of comparison reading. Our trial is nine days with no credit card precisely so you can do it with your own data.
No — it is a capable, mature platform, and for some businesses it is the right answer. It is a general ERP, which means it can be configured to do almost anything and arrives configured for almost nothing. The question is whether you want to spend that configuration effort, and whether you have someone to maintain it afterwards.
Not out of the box. Odoo's manufacturing module manages bills of material well once they exist; creating one from a drawing or a photograph is not part of it. That is the specific gap Zaptiz was built to close, because it is where a panel shop's estimating hours actually go.
The licence is only part of the cost. Community edition plus an implementation partner, hosting, and someone to maintain customisations usually lands well above a subscription. If you have in-house technical capability and time, that equation can favour Odoo; if you do not, the running cost tends to be underestimated.
Yes in both directions, with effort proportional to how much history you move. Zaptiz exports to CSV, and product and price-list import is assisted on paid plans. Nobody should choose a system on the assumption they will never leave it.
In our experience Zaptiz, because the shop rarely has the technical resource to run an Odoo implementation and the panel-specific estimating is where the time goes. If that shop has a capable in-house developer and unusual process requirements, Odoo's flexibility may win. Trial both — ours is 9 days with no card.
